Chapters:
SPO Document Tagging
Goal: Prototype metadata tagging as a practical way to manage 500–1,000 pages in SharePoint Online.
Demo scope: One task only: tag documents and demonstrate grouping by those tags.
- Create simple demo metadata, since the production Term Store does not yet contain suitable terms.
- Initial example tags: Public, Admin, Private.
- Demonstrate the power of classification with directory/folder structure to determine the appropriate tag automatically.
- Allow document drag and drop in the classification stage.
- Apply the derived tag to each document/page as SharePoint metadata.
- Create SharePoint views that group and filter documents by the metadata.
- Demonstrate that a large collection can be organized and navigated through classification rather than requiring manual review or manual tagging.
Prototype flow:
Directory structure → derive tag → apply metadata → group/filter in SPO
The specific tags are only demo data. The purpose of the prototype is to demonstrate automated classification from existing structure and metadata-based management in SharePoint Online.
